Kinmichi (金道), real name Kazushi Hibino (日比野一二), was born on May 6, 1917 (Taishō 6) and lived in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture—a historic center of Japanese sword-making. 
On August 20, 1945, just days after Japan's defeat in World War II, he took personal responsibility for the nation’s loss and chose to end his own life at the age of 29.
