This wakizashi is unsigned, with a blade length of 53.6 cm. The blade shows visible forging openings, a feature often found on practical swords produced in the turbulent Sengoku period. The hamon is an irregular midare pattern, with portions appearing broken and undulating, reflecting the character of late Muromachi workmanship.
The nakago with two mekugi-ana retains a dark, natural patina, indicative of age. The overall shape suggests production in the late Muromachi to early Edo period (ca. 1550–1650), a time when such blades were made in large numbers for battlefield use.
A notable feature of this example is the rare phoenix-design menuki. The scabbard has been modified into a leather-covered version, suggesting later adaptation for military use during the Second World War.
