Masayasu Mano of Bishū (尾州住眞野正泰) – Imperial Army-Appointed Swordsmith of the Shōwa Era

Masayasu, real name Masayasu Mano (眞野正泰), was an accomplished swordsmith who forged blades in Aichi Prefecture and was officially appointed by the Imperial Japanese Army. He was ranked among the “Upper-Class Swordsmiths” (Jōkō) and held the title of Ōwazamono Sekiwake-kaku in Kurihara Hikosaburō’s prestigious Seidai Tōshō Iretsu.

Before the war, he actively exhibited his work and won numerous awards. After the war, he appears to have withdrawn from swordsmithing. Blades like this one are now considered highly valuable and rare examples of prewar Japanese craftsmanship.
