福本兼宗Fukumoto Kanemune was a Japanese swordsmith active from the late Meiji through the Showa period, producing robust and practical blades for military use. This example, with a blade length of 68.5 cm, is notably thick and heavy, reflecting the sturdy workmanship often associated with his wartime swords. It is mounted in a Japanese Army Type 98 officer’s sword koshirae and accompanied by its original leather-covered saya, typical of field-use adaptations meant to improve durability. The overall construction shows the functional, battlefield-ready style for which Kanemune’s guntō-era blades are known.
