A traditionally made Japanese sword measuring 63 cm in cutting length, mounted in an exceptionally well-preserved Imperial Japanese Navy officer’s Kaigunto koshirae. The mounts are covered with fine skark skin and retain their original fittings, all stamped with the same assembly number.
The tang bears a partially legible inscription: the first character is unclear, while the second character is unmistakably “光” (Mitsu). It is possible that the nakago has been modified or shortened, with the signature re-cut at some point in its history.
The blade displays a refined ayasugi-hada (綾杉肌) grain pattern, a distinctive forging style, while the hamon is a mostly straight suguha with gentle wave-like undulations.
This sword represents a high-quality traditionally forged blade, mounted in complete and matching naval officer’s mounts, rarely preserved in such fine condition.
