A mumei katana dating from the Edo period, mounted in traditional samurai koshirae fitted with a leather field cover. Unlike standard field gunto, this example features a suspension ring on the end of the scabbard, likely designed for ease of carrying on the back. The tsuba is inscribed with the name of the original owner: Keizō Kibayashi, Yokoyasue-chō, Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
This sword represents a fascinating hybrid between Edo-period craftsmanship and later field use, preserving both the spirit of the samurai tradition and traces of its 20th-century history.
