The blade is signed “Ichijō Kunitsune” (一条国常) with a nagasa of 59.1 cm. Ichijō Kunitsune is a swordsmith actived in the early Edo period, known for producing traditionally forged blades with an emphasis on practicality and balance.
The blade shows a well-controlled midare-style hamon, composed of rounded and gently undulating elements. The jihada is a clear nashiji-hada, characterized by a fine, evenly textured surface with a subtle granular appearance. This type of jihada is typically associated with careful forging and refined steel preparation, favoring strength and uniformity over overt decorative activity.
Mounted in regulation Imperial Japanese Army Type 98 guntō fittings with a leather-covered scabbard, a configuration commonly encountered on swords intended for active field service.
