The blade is signed “Yoshitsugu” (吉次) with a nagasa of 50.6 cm. Yoshitsugu is a traditional swordsmith name recorded from the Muromachi period, associated with lineages producing practical fighting blades. This example is attributed to the Muromachi period based on its workmanship and overall characteristics.

The blade exhibits a natural midare-style hamon, consisting of gently undulating waves with soft transitions. The jihada is clearly visible under light, showing a tight itame-hada with subtle flowing grain.

Mounted in regulation Imperial Japanese Army Type 98 guntō fittings with a leather-covered scabbard, in very good overall condition. Given the relatively short blade length and single-handed grip configuration, the sword was likely well suited for use in confined environments and may have been carried by an armored unit or tank commander.

A fine example of a Muromachi-period blade later adapted for Japanese Army service during World War II.
