A fine unsigned hira-zukuri tantō dating to the Muromachi period (15th-16th century), forged in a practical and robust style characteristic of the Sengoku era. The blade measures 24.8 cm and displays an elegant yet utilitarian sugata with a shallow profile and compact kissaki.
The hamon is a restrained gunome-midare mixed with gentle undulations, executed in a subdued and refined manner. The jihada is particularly attractive, showing a distinct masame-hada flowing along the blade, giving the piece a strong koto character and austere beauty. The forging texture remains clearly visible under light and adds considerable depth to the surface.
The nakago is ubu with a single mekugi-ana, bearing a naturally aged patina consistent with authentic Muromachi-period work. The overall impression suggests a provincial smith of the Mino tradition or related Sue-koto school, made during the height of Japan’s warring states period.
