An unsigned katana measuring 62.3 cm in blade length, with 0.7 cm of curvature. The blade has been substantially shortened by ō-suriage, resulting in the loss of the original nakago and inscription. Two mekugi-ana remain in the shortened nakago.
The blade displays a finely forged and tightly grained konuka-hada. The hamon consists of an irregular and lively pattern of broad undulations, with a clear and bright nioiguchi. Based on the surviving workmanship and the effects of the extensive ō-suriage, the blade is most likely a late Muromachi-period sword, dating approximately to the 16th century. The workmanship may be considered within the traditions of Sue-Bizen or Mino.
The sword is mounted in Japanese Navy landing force fittings, with the saya fully covered in black leather, a feature commonly associated with combat use and field protection.
