This is a signed Japanese sword bearing the mei “Yamashiro no Kami Fujiwara Toshinaga” (山城守藤原歳長). The blade measures 52.1 cm in length.

Yamashiro no Kami Fujiwara Toshinaga (山城守藤原歳長) was a Japanese swordsmith active during the early Edo period in the Shintō era. He is believed to have worked in the 17th century and belonged to the group of smiths who adopted honorary court titles such as Yamashiro no Kami, a distinction granted during the Edo period that reflected status and recognition within the sword-making community.

The blade exhibits a suguha (straight) hamon, clean and controlled along the cutting edge, combined with a fine ko-itame hada that appears tightly forged and well refined. This restrained and elegant tempering style reflects the refined workmanship commonly associated with Shintō-period smiths.

The sword is mounted in Type 98 guntō koshirae with a leather-covered scabbard, typical of field-service mounts. The remounting of traditionally forged blades into military fittings was common during the wartime period, reflecting continued functional use.
