It features a restrained suguha hamon, with a relatively elegant and understated appearance characteristic of Edo-periodEdo Era Mumei IJN Kaigunto workmanship. The overall sugata and tempering style are consistent with an Edo-period piece, likely dating to the 17th–18th century.
The koshirae is a genuine Imperial Japanese Navy Kaigunto mounting, fitted with a black shark skin scabbard.
