This is an mid–late Edo period unsigned tanto with a blade length of 22.3 cm. The blade is of hira-zukuri construction with no curvature, giving it a refined, compact, and practical form.
The jihada displays a tight and well-controlled ko-itame grain, indicative of careful forging. The suguha hamon is even and understated, enhancing the blade’s elegant and classical appearance.
Accompanying the mounting is a wari-kōgai (split kōgai), fitted with gold inlay (zōgan). The presence of a wari-kōgai—a less commonly encountered variation compared to standard kōgai—along with its gold decoration, suggests a mounting of refined taste and a certain level of status.
