Signed “Būshū Takada jū Fujiwara Moriyuki,” a smith of the Takada school in Bungo Province, descending from the lineage of Saneyuki. This line was active from the late Nanbokuchō period and continued into the Shintō era, with Moriyuki working mainly from the Kan’ei to Enpō periods (17th century).

With a length of 59.0cm, the blade shows a refined small gunome mixed with ko-chōji hamon, rich in activity with nie, ashi, and fine sunagashi. Subtle yubashiri appears along the hardened edge, and the boshi turns back in a small rounded form with slight hakikake. Strongly influenced by Bizen traditions, this is a well-balanced and robust Takada work combining durability with elegant workmanship.

The sword is mounted in Imperial Japanese Navy officer’s mounts, indicating that this traditionally forged blade was later selected and remounted for naval service. Such reuse of older, traditionally made swords was common among officers who preferred classical blades over contemporary mass-produced examples.
