A signed Japanese katana measuring approximately 64 cm in blade length, with 2.7 cm of curvature. The original inscription on the nakago is heavily obscured by age-related corrosion and is presently difficult to read.
The blade has a distinctive and somewhat archaic form, featuring a pronounced 4.8 cm kissaki, considerable curvature, and a clearly visible itame jihada. The hamon is a refined and relatively narrow suguha, giving the blade a restrained and elegant appearance in contrast to its powerful overall shape.
The overall sugata suggests an early Koto blade, most likely dating from the late Nanbokuchō to early Muromachi period, around the late 14th to early 15th century. The possibility of an earlier Nanbokuchō-period blade that was subsequently shortened should also be considered.
The blade is mounted in original-style Type 98 Japanese Army mounts with a steel scabbard. The remounting of traditionally forged blades into military fittings was common during the wartime period, reflecting continued functional use.
