This Japanese sword is signed Kanemitsu (兼光), a renowned name of the Bizen Osafune school, active from the late Kamakura to Nanbokuchō period (13th–14th century). The blade measures 64.6 cm and shows a well-balanced classical form.
The hamon is a refined suguha with gentle undulation, bright and controlled, paired with a fine itame-hada, reflecting traditional tamahagane forging. The overall workmanship and style are consistent with Nanbokuchō to early Muromachi period production.
The sword is mounted in Imperial Japanese Navy Kaigunto fittings, featuring a sharkskin-covered scabbard and menuki decorated with a family crest, indicating private ownership. A fine example combining classical Bizen craftsmanship with historically significant naval mounts.
